The Last Moments of THIS Layout

Tomorrow at about 10 in the morning, my blog would be given a brand new look with brand new perspectives and hopefully, the author himself would have a brand new life. From the darkness of this blog to a blog that would be filled with life, love, hope and faith. Am I going to delete this blog completely? I think I would. This had been a sad memory of my very very dark past. But I am grateful that I went through all those things. Baka hanggang ngayon, nasa dilim ako at lagi na lang nadadapa. Bukas, magsisimula uli ako.

At isang mensahe sa mga ilang nagalit sa mga ipinost ko nitong mga huling buwan: hindi pa tapos ang lahat. Medyo nanahimik lang ako dahil na rin sa payo ng isang nagkomento na magsaliksik ako nang malaman ko ang totoo. At iyun na nga, totoo nga ang mga pinagsasabi ko. Sensya na, walang personalan. Trabaho lang.

Blog Action Day 2008

The Game For The Ultimate Flirts

This game reminds me of the days not so long ago when I'm desperate to have a 'date.' Hehe.. There's a lot of pick up lines roaming around the cellphones here in the Philippines like: "I lost my number, can I have yours?" What the? You might get slapped by the girl. Unless, you're one of a kind. But sometimes it works. :D Just like using Extreme Style by VO5 hair spray if you want to get that Victory Hair. Try to play this game: Ultimate Flirting Championship. Ten Thousand Years of Living Without Boredom

That is if you can live that long. :D

As I have found out Banzai is a traditional Japanese expression which means 'ten thousand years.' Or for Filipinos, it is a similar term to our own "Mabuhay." It is also an acclamation to a certain person with high authority or fame. Or like a complement for a good deed. And for stress loaded people out there it is good to relax and 'de-stress' yourself with the popular Japanese spoof TV show which is also called BANZAI! And now, Banzai is available on DVD!

The DVD is filled with clips from the episodes of the popular TV show Banzai. The game is played by watching the DVD and betting on the outcome of the stunt or event by using different sushi pieces (creatively named King Fu Carl, Lois, Chum and Tako). Then the players place their bets on different bowls as fast as they can using chopsticks. The bowls are the choices for the correct answer to the question that would be flashed on the screen before a stunt, action or event ends. And the winner gets all the sushi. (I wonder if its edible? :D)

To see a glimpse of one of the 'sushi pieces' used in the game, you might as well want to check out this mini game call Tako-gotchi. You can also get some 'rubbish' for your computer there. (Well actually, they are wallpapers.)

I myself have tried to play the Tako-gotchi game and see what my Tako-gotchi is doing:

The Red Army's (in Manila) Unacceptable Behavior

(Note: This is the Second Part of the Red Army in the Philippines post. Red Army in the Philippines refers to the New People's Army and the different leftist activist groups such as Bayan Muna, Kabataan Party, Gabriela, ANAKPAWIS, ANAKBAYAN, League of Filipino Students, etc. This is my personal reflection, being a 'former pseudo activist' from one of these groups.)

Somebody had replied to first post (Red Army in the Philippines?) via my Multiply account. The commenter was a former colleague from one of the activists groups in the school. If I'm not mistaken, I've met (or seen) him once. He is one of the most 'active' activists who really have the heart for his chosen cause. Well, here's what he had to say:

"A little information is a dangerous thing.
- if you'll read news from the 90s, you'll see that those who were behind the "purges" were actually expelled from the Movement. like Popoy Lagman and Romulo Kintanar and Arturo Tabara.
- the NPA is not the only armed group in the Phil. countryside. there is also the RHB (in Central Luzon), and RPA (in the Visayas). why am i telling you this? it is because these groups have a tendency to pose as the NPAs while committing nefarious activities. for example, there are reports that NPAs ask for money ("tax collections") from ordinary people. but the NPA's money on such policies is that they only take money from "class enemies" meaning landlords and big corporations. so, most of the time, these are actually bandit groups using another group's color to lend legitimacy. after all, many businesses in the countryside pay up despite admonitions from the military not to.
in fact, the NPA is highly hated by huge mining companies and illegal loggers. you could try looking for "Green Warrior", a 1996 documentary that showed the NPA's policy of protecting natural resources wherever they have a presence. and I guess its in the news that not a week passes without some mining or logging company getting their equipment burnt (take note, no employees were harmed, right?).
now, i will speak from personal experience. while it is true that BM and all the progressive partylist groups endorsed Recto, it is wrong to assume that it was a decision enforced in a monolithic way. matindi ung debate namin nun, lalo na sa mga partylist supporters sa youth, at lalo na sa UP. kung nagmukha man na solidly namin sinuportahan si Recto, it is quite the opposite. nirespeto ang aming opinion that he doesn't deserve support pero at the same time, hindi kami compelled na ibigay ung mga campaign materials nya. kahit nga si Kiko Pangilinan, di rin namin sinunod yung pag-support sa kanya.
bottom line is, you can't affect the "getting there" of "where you want to got" unless you are part of it. sniping from a bystander's distance will only provide more ammunition for those who want to crush the peoples' movement."

I have always thought about this topic. Their behavior.

First, on cigarettes and mess.

Why do they keep on using cigarettes? Isn't it a bad influence to the youth? I think they should be the 'role models' if they want to attract more youth to join their ranks. Oh, maybe it might be as well used to attract more youth because they would be joining a 'cool group.' I don't know.

And at that certain point wherein they somehow criticized the "No Smoking Policy" here in our school, I want to ask them, why? Is it 'bad to ban something bad?' We all know that cigarettes do nothing good to our health and well-being. Yet, why do they tolerate that? And why do they 'criticize' such 'good policy'? It isn't a repression of 'their right to smoke.' But I think, it violates 'our right to breathe clean air.' I may be misinformed or know 'little' again on this issue but that's as far I could remember reading from a paper.

Isn't it a sign that they too are "irresponsible people'? What kind of leadership can we expect from them? This too coincides with the fact that after their rallies, they always leave that place with lots of litter and garbage. Why don't they clean it up after all it is them who used it for their democratic exercise? Isn't it a violation of 'our right to a clean environment?'

And speaking of environmental issues, they too are active in campaigning for the closure of abusive mining companies that exploits our mountains and forests. Well, that's good. But how can you even talk like that when yourselves cannot clean up the mess that you have caused? Is it right to say that 'you practice what you preach?' If they can't do such simple thing as cleaning up their mess after a rally, how can we be sure that they can 'clean up' our rotten society as well?

The Red Army in the Philippines?

(Disclaimer: No personal attacks, this is just a blog post. My thoughts. My opinions. It may seem like a backstabbing attack on my former colleagues, but still this what's in my mind. And for them, read with an open mind.)

Its no secret that I'm a member of one comprehensive mass organization. I joined the group without anyone recruiting me in. Why did I join? Because of the situation of UP during that time. It is about to increase its tuition and other fees by 300%. Now it is 1000-1500 pesos/unit, up from the previous 300 pesos per unit. I joined in the 'fight' because I would want that to be scrapped. I have been thinking about my sister and my cousin. They will never be able to get into UP because of the high costs. Although during that time, the UP admin is doing a 'information dissemination campaign' to explain the policy, which I prefer to call a propaganda to divide the students, I didn't believe them. I know that even though they claim to have this 'socialized tuition' scheme for deserving but poor students, it would be hard to get one.

And so on that the fateful 28th day of June 2006, I went to their exhibit at the 2nd floor of Palma Hall, and signed up for that org. It was a life changing decision that I've made.

After that, I had an argument with my parents. A really intense argument. I think I didn't won. But after that, I still go to their 'educational discussions' or EDs. But soon after that, I went astray; literally. I would sometimes end up walking around the academic oval (in UP) or go to the nearest internet cafe and drown myself into my blog (the previous one). Anyway, that would be another blog post.

Why is my post entitled the red army? I don't know. It just came to my mind that I want to talk about this topic on my blog.

If I'm not mistaken (correct me tibak guys and gals), they support the armed struggle by, who else, the New People's Army. And they adhere to the 'teachings' of Prof. Jose Maria Sison. They also somehow look up to the teachings of Mao Zedong and Karl Marx. And of course, their favorite color is red.

Some of you may have noticed. I have been using 'they' instead of 'we'. Why? Because somehow I already do not now agree to what have they been doing.

I have always believed that for change to come, everyone must be united. I have also believed that rallies are good democratic exercise. But what is not agreeable is the aftermath. The streets are full of trash left by the rallyists. And the heavy traffic jam that they have caused. Well, they may say that the woman sitting in Malacanang is the garbage that we need to get rid off but before doing that, can they have the responsibility to clean up their own 'mess'? If not, this could be a sign that they are going to be another 'mess' that we are going to have in the government IF they finally took over.

I have always believed that the E-VAT passed by this government and authored by Ralph Recto is too much and another burden to all of us. But why did you threw your support for Ralph Recto which was the author of that scheme? You said (specifically Bayan Muna) that you supported him because he is supporting you in your fight against extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearances. But isn't that selfish and double-standard? I also condemn these killings and kidnappings but isn't it much important to be at the side of the people whom E-VAT had made them suffer a lot?

They are fast in condemning the 'wrongdoings' of the military. But why they can't condemn the 'wrongdoings' of the NPAs which some are already extortion and money making activities. Is it because they are 'heavily-linked' with the NPA? I don't know. Maybe they can answer. Or maybe not. Because they would want to keep it as a secret.

And If they actually supported the NPA, then they agree to what have happened during th 1980s-1990s wherein a lot of 'purges' happened. It involved the killings of hundreds of 'comrades' who are suspected of being a 'deep penetration agent' of the military or simply those who are not sympathizers to the cause. I don't know. Maybe they could answer.

I would like to clarify just one thing. I like the idea of having a socialist state, base on what I understand of it. (As I understand it, a socialist state is a kind of state wherein the welfare of the people is the top priority and protected from selfish interests, e.g. multinational corporations, imperialists, etc. And there would be equal representation of the people with equal opportunities to be a part of the government.) And that is what they also want. But the only problem is how we are going to get there.

The 2008 Beijing Olympics

The whole world (including me) witnessed the grand opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics last August 8, 2008 at exactly 8:08 PM. It was really a grand showcase of China's growing might, power and importance in the international scene. We were awed by the splendid performance of the 10,000 people who participated on the opening ceremonies. The colorful and bright fireworks temporarily made us forget the pollution and the human rights abuses the Chinese government has committed.

The Chinese government, most especially the Communist Party of China should see the Olympics as a reminder that we should uphold human rights. There should be justice, freedom and equality like in the different sporting events in the Olympics. Isn't it ironical that such 'noble' event that promotes the said values and virtues is being held in a country where repression of freedom and violations of human rights are happening by the minute?

China is said to be a 'communist nation' but since the early '80s, it has veered away from the 'communist principles' which is being promoted by the late Mao Tse Tsung. Neither they are now a 'capitalist' country. The type of principles that they are currently doing are more of a 'dictatorship.' Look at how they repress the Tibetans crying out for independence. And how can we forget what I call as the bloodiest and most repressive dispersal of a demonstration calling for 'genuine reforms' which is the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre.

China should be ashamed of itself. Propaganda would not help. They should rethink their ways. They've got a great deal of philosophical teachings whether it be by Confucius or the Buddha. They should try to apply it to themselves. That alone would help them have the 'change of heart.' And it's a great shame that the United Nations which is supposedly promoting the values and virtues of democracy is very silent on this issue. Not only on China but also on the US war of aggression against Iraq. Why?

Anyway, like most of the Filipinos here at home and abroad, I'm hoping to see an Olympic gold medal worn by a Filipino athlete. Last night I have seen JB Walsh, one of the Filipino Olympians, in action on the 200 meter breaststroke for men. Well, I thought that was a match for the gold medal but it was not. Anyway, my sister and I were cheering in front of our television and in the end, he eventually placed FIRST. Wow, I do hope he would be the one to give our country our first GOLD medal.

If I'm not mistaken, I think he is in the same competition where the legendary Michael Phelps of the US is competing. Well, I hope he wouldn't be intimidated and go for the gold!

Arte Y Pico Award

The Story of Finding The Book

Before my blog/book review for memoirs of KLITORIKA, here is story on how I finally got the copy of that book.

I started my journey to find that precious jewel at 12:30 PM. I took the MRT to go to Megamall. Why Megamall when SM North is just around the corner? Well, not really. Just a jeepney ride from my school. It was because I haven't been there since I was 8 or 9 years old. Yeah, it's unbelievable but true. I really don't like going to malls. Lagi lang sumasakit paa ko sa kalalakad.

Anyway, because she said that her books are now available at the National Bookstore, that was my first stop. But to my dismay, her book is nowhere in sight. So, I spent an hour on the store scanning all the books that piqued my interest. I spotted this very interesting book written by Victor Corpuz about the tactics of the NPA. Well, even though I'm very much interested in that book, it was not the one I'm planning to buy.

So off I went to another store which is Powerbooks. I'm not expecting to see her book there (because she didn't mention that it is available there) but I'm surprised to find another interesting book published by PSICOM, authored by the 'famous' blogger named "Jay Panti." All of his three books are available there. But again no matter how funny or interesting his book was, it was not the one I'm planning to buy.

So after enduring hunger (because I didn't take my lunch)and pain (of walking), I've finally decided to go back to where I should have went to: SM North.

And there it is. The last copy of it. And so I immediately ran and grabbed the book (nalaglag pa nga iyung mga katabi dahil para akong magnanakaw na nanghablot ng bag, hehe.. :D) and held tight to it; as if I had found a tresure worth a billion dollars. (overpriced ata? hehe.. :D) Walangya talaga, nagpunta pa ko ng malayo tapos nandito lang pala. Its alright. It was worth it. Anyway, the rest is said below. :)

memoirs of KLITORIKA: A Blog and Book Review

Shocking title? Well, it may be shocking to my Filipino readers but to others, it may not. But as for me, it came as a surprise to see a blog written by a Filipina in a most 'unconservative' way. It may lead the Filipino 'moralists' and conservatives in an uproar for such a blog but I believe, it is timely to see, read and have a blog that talks differently about being a Filipina that is tied to social norms and 'breaking free' from it.

And as my own way of celebrating 'Buwan ng Pambansang Wika' (National Language Month) here in the Philippines, I'm giving you my first ever blog and book review rolled into one. And the first featured blog/book is memoirs of KLITORIKA.

Why is it a blog and a book? Well, she had recently published here first ever book with the same title as her blog. It is a collection of her blog posts with a little revisions but these revisions surely added up 'a lot of spice' into her work.

I admire her for coming out and tells it all in her blog and book. It is indeed a brave attempt to create a 'new niche' in blogs and literature (esp. Phil. literature which I still view as very conservative and reserved). Naunahan niya ako. :) Medyo matagal ko na rin pinaplano na gumawa ng libro na may kapareho niyang tema. But still I think mine would be a lot different.

Going back to her works, a lot would surely raise their eyebrows once they have just read the first part of it. They would surely cry out "This is smut" or "This is a sign of the moral decandence of the youth!!", etc. (Can somebody take me to the hospital, my nose is now bleeding, hahaha.. :D) But that would be for somebody who is not open to new ideas and new thoughts. Somebody without an open mind (and open legs, hahaha... :D) would surely not understand what she says.

I have just bought a copy of the book (the last one in National Bookstore in SM North) and like a child that has finally got his lollipop, I immediately read the book once I got inside the bus. (Well, there's a REALLY LOOONG story on how I finally got to have a copy of that book.) I didn't care the fact that I was standing up. (Kasi wala nang maupuan sa bus.) And It was just a few minutes later that I've realized that some people are raising their brows. At dun ko lang napagtanto na nakatingin sila sa cover. Maybe, the title shocked them, or the apple that looked like the female genitalia. (O may bayad yan ate klitorika, advertising mula sa akin, haha..) Well, I'm very much sure that one of them would buy the book; out of curiosity.

As I browse through its first few pages, I'm really awed on how she was able to say it all: from the most 'intimate and erotic' moments of her life to the most 'philosophical thoughts' she have. Your senses would be tickled (especially between your legs), but as you end each story, you will learn something from it and will make you say, "Oo nga noh, bakit kaya ganun?"

And as my last words, let me share you my favorite excerpt from this book and sorry no translation for this:

"...Pero syempre habang lumalaki at nagkakaisip tayo, nagkakaroon na rin tayo ng lakas ng loob na baguhin, ipagbalewala at kalimutan ang mga paniniwala, tradisyon at relihiyong nakagisnan natin dahil sa impluwensiya ng maraming bagay, karanasan at tao sa paligid natin o dahil na rin sa sarili nating pagpapasya."

Lipat Bahay

It was out of curiosity that I applied for a FREE web domain at a site. I thought it was a some sort of a SCAm. But, wow. They are really noble indeed. And after a month, I finally got my OWN, FREE web domain. And I'm glad that I'm going to use it for WordPress.

It had been two years since I've heard a lot from bloggers that WordPress is a better platform than the others (like what I'm using right now). But I'm not paying any attention to these criticisms (for Blogger) and praises (for WordPress) until now.

I'm thinking a thousand times whether I should move out of Blogger to WordPress. Well, I have been always wanting to have my own domain name which I've finally got from good-hearted people but as of now, I've got no issues with Blogger.

So I've contacted the benevolent provider of my domain name and I've asked if they could transfer its use from WordPress to Blogger but unfortunately they won't do it. They just told me that they would help me in using WordPress.

I've started to learn about its features and it is not that hard to use. It is even easier to use than Blogger. But can someone out there give me an advice on what to do.

What I'm worried about is the fact that I'm going to start again from scratch. My Alexa, PR and everything else would go down to zero. I have to re-market my blog again and as you all know, it took me two years to reach this point.

By the way, the domain name is http://pinoywriter.net. It's really a good domain name. Shorter and easy to remember than my http://manunulat-ako.blogspot.com/. I have already imported my posts from and some ads.

What can you say guys? I do hope to get advice or help from techie guys and gals out there.

The Bangsamoro State?

Yesterday, the Supreme Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order on the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement that would create a larger Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao that would be called the Bangsamoro Juridical Entity between the government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front. This was a 'victory' for the opponents of this MOA. And as for me, we should not take steps on resolving the conflict by further dividing ourselves.

I also believe that to solve the problem of the MILF or the Abu Sayaf and the communist insurgency elsewhere is to provide the much needed basic social services of the people (e.g. education, health, housing). Mindanao had been long neglected as well as the far-flung communities which are heavily infested with communist insurgents. I believe that these 'revolutionaries' (not rebels, because in the first place, they are crying out genuine problems), would not have the guts to take up arms against the established government if they are receiving these services which are indeed, very basic and very simple. Yet why in all these years, the government had failed to give?

And another question? Why are they in a hurry? Well, one answer that I have thought of is that because solving the 'Moro rebellion' is one of the main policies of the Arroyo regime, they would want to solve it right away so that she can 'proudly claim' that she has 'solved' it. And well maybe help her approval ratings go up. But hey Mrs. Arroyo, you are not solving the problem. You are creating a new one by giving the MILF the reason to push through for an independent Bangsamoro State. Well, I would be one of the many Filipinos who would stand up for a united Philippines. Religion or ethnicity should not be a dividing factor in our country. And it should not be a reason for separation. Umayos ka nga Gloria.

On Floods and Rivers

Here in the Philippines, it is not unusual to see flooded streets. Well, it would be rare to see floods in cities like Puerto Prinsesa or in Subic but elsewhere, flooding is a grave problem. Like in our community (Barangay Sta. Ines), for the past two weeks, we have always been underwater. Although the flood waters would recede sometime in the afternoon but what is quite unusual is that the flood is now knee-deep. When I was a kid, floods would usually be no higher than a adult's legs. And also, it had never came into our house. Yet for the past 2 years, our living room would sometimes be flooded too.

There was this incident last year wherein we just woke up to find our house underwater. My bag was soaking wet (because I have placed it on the floor), our ancient and primitive computer (which luckily survived the flood) and all of our shoes. It was really a mess and it was the first time that floods came into our house. Well, we were not the only ones who suffered the same fate. Everyone in our community was not spared.

Well, our community is surrounded by a river so it is not surprising that during high tides we would expect floods. But what would further aggravate the problem are the following: releasing of water from the different dams in Bulacan, one in Angat and Bustos, a typhoon that has a lot of rain to bring and the very inefficient flood control projects the provincial government is doing.

Let me talk about the so-called 'flood-control projects.' Why so-called? Because instead of 'controlling' or mitigating the effects of the floods. It had made them even worse.

Obando is one of the municipalities in Bulacan that is always underwater. And there is this road that connects it to our town (Bulakan, not to be confused with the province of Bulacan) which never runs out of water. So to solve the problem, they've decided to build a road that would be higher that the previous one. A great solution indeed especially for the commuters and public utility jeeps that ply the route. But the solution created another problem.

Where would you expect the flood waters to go now that it is blocked by a road? Exactly, to other low lying areas such as our town. Soon, it is now our roads that are flooded. And they have another 'innovative' solution for that. They have also built a road that is higher that the previous one. And so, another problem was created again. The water goes further down to low lying communities such as ours. And I think, this is the 'flood control' solution that our provincial government is doing in other areas. Well, isn't it a sign of inefficiency? We can't just blame it on global warming or climate change. Because, we can do something. No, we can do a lot.

One is the strict implementation of the law against the dumping of garbage on the river. I guess they're starting it but they are not CONTINUALLY doing it. Just like the case of our national gov't. Two, a ban on the further reclamation of the river banks. This may sound new to others but here, it is no secret that some establishments or houses further extend their lots to the river. So the natural flow of the river is blocked and surely the water will rise further worsening the flood problem. Three, start the long overdue dredging of the river systems. It is a temporary solution but it can help a lot in mitigating the flood problem. And so that people would further appreciate the importance of our rivers, try to put up a route for ferries to ply along the river. It is also one great way to promote tourism, decongest traffic and to bring back life to our rivers.

I regret that when I was I kid, I didn't have the chance to swim in a river. It was kinda disheartening to hear stories not-so-long-ago of my parents or older relatives swimming in the river and catching some fish. But I was still lucky to experience riding a boat across the river. It only happened once. And I really treasure it. Still, I'm hoping that in the near future, we can eventually swim again in our rivers.

Wrapping Up July

Many things have happened to my blog this July. And it somehow made me happy despite all of my problems in life. Here are some of what happened to my blog the past month.

For the first time in two years, I have been able to reach two targets for my blog: One, to be able to reach 10,000 visitors and well the other one is to reach 15,000.

And so for the first time, I have been able to reach both targets within a month. And as of yesterday, I have already passed the 16,000 mark.

Yet, I am still hoping to get stable traffic to my website. Because there are still some days wherein there would be less visitors to my sites and some days where there is a sudden surge of visitors. On the average, I'm not getting more than a hundred visitors everyday which is my next target for this month. Last June, I have stopped using automated traffic sites because it is only a total waste of time and it only brings you little traffic. Except for LinkReferral which is a good site not just to bring in traffic but to link with other bloggers as well. And I'm hoping to get my target of 15,000 visitors a month before the year ends. Quite low compared to other blogs out there which receives those 15,000 visitors a week or even a day, but I guess its a good start.

So to help me reach that target, I've lately tried to focus on these three options:

Quality Content + Current Events: Lately, I've been trying much to write short but very educational and useful articles like my last post about the Philippine-American War. Well, this is also part of what I have learned about SEO. Using certain keywords can really drive traffic in. I signed up for Google Analytics two weeks ago and I'm really quite surprised to see my articles getting quite a number of direct traffic from search engines. And here are the top 5 articles that recieved unique targeted visits in the past 16 days (July 15-30):

Bob Ong Had Just Re-Inspired Me: 31 visits

It is not already surprising to find my 'pinay sex scandal' topic to be the most popular article in my blog. Quite a lot of bloggers have already joined the bandwagon of cleaning up the image of Pinays in cyberspace and a lot of them recieved a lot of visits thru different search engines because of those keywords. Well, perverts may be sad to find none of these 'scandals' in these sites, but bloggers are really really happy. (like me, hehehe..)

LinkReferral:Just like what I've said before LinkReferral really helps me to build up my Technorati Authority by exchanging links with other bloggers. It also drives you some traffic and unlike other traffic boosting sites, it's all manual. You are the one who gets to see the site, drop some reviews on it or add it as your favorite. LinkReferral has also categorized the sites so that you can choose on what type of sites you would want to see. If you see that a site is miscategorized, you can report it to them so that it can be removed or relocated to its category.

Entrecard: This is really a great service for all bloggers. Helps you build your social network and I get to see a lot of my fellow Filipino bloggers here.

Two Months To Go

Two months from now, a decision has to be made. A decision that could change my life. It really needs to be done as soon as possible. But two months is enough for thinking and getting over everything. And start a new beginning. Who knows about this? Iyung taong maldita diyan. Hehehe..

Kidding aside, if someone asks "Why?" My answer then would be, "Why not?" Life is worth taking the risk. Successful people have always taken a lot of risks before they went to where they are now. And I want to be one of them. Even though the future is really unclear, I would still want to see it... by taking, possibly, the last risk I would do for myself.

This time, it's not for somebody or someone else. This is for me. For what would I become. It may be hard. I may feel completely alone. I may became an 'outcast'. But who are they to judge me? Well that's one problem with me. I'm always afraid of what others might think of me. That is why all of my life, I'm living on their expectations. I have forgotten that I have my life. And I don't need to live for them.

It could be too late. Well I don't care. I don't care anymore of what others might think of me. I just want to be there - in my future - whatever it may hold.

Also, I want to stop crying. It takes me nowhere. I would only cry again, if that time comes for me to take my perpetual rest.

So be it.

Online Money Making Opportunities

Well, as of this moment, I still have to recieve my first ever payment from AdBrite which amounts to $15.17 which is going to be processed next month. Well, I didn't earn that $15.17 from AdBrite in just a month. I have earned that amount from the past 12 months! Well, before my site doesn't get so much traffic so the maximum that I earns a month ranges from as little as 50 cents to almost a dollar a month. But thanks to link building and referral sites like LinkReferral and Entrecard, I was able to get in more visitors and so make more money through CPM (Cost-Per-Impressions) from my ads.

One thing that these two sites helped me is through the different posts made by different bloggers on tips on how to attract more visitors and earn more money online. The latest addition to my knowledge is about SEO or Search Engine Optimization. It involves the use of certain popular keywords that internet users would most likely type in their search engines. Of course this also involves the submission of your sites to different search engines as well.

There are also some sites that I have discovered through different forums and blogs that offers Paid-To-Click or PTC programs. A lot have been saying that they have earned a lot from these. But the only problem with these kind of money-making venture is that you have to a premium member to be able to fully enjoy the benefits of joining them. Nevertheless, it still one good way to earn some money online. You just have to be patient and put your effort in trying to visit these sites everyday. Well here are some of my 'recommended' PTC programs that are available out there.

First is Bux.to, one of my favorite PTC sites. Why? Because unlike other PTC programs, Bux.to lets you really earn by placing a lot of ads to click on. There would be no day that there is no ad to click on Bux.to. Even though you are just a basic member, you are not really far from what premium members earn. Although being a basic member in Bux.to is still limited, if you are able to click on their ads everyday, which are from 10-20 ads a day, you can really earn.

For example you click on 10 ads a day, you will earn $0.10 cents. Then if you do this for a month, you have already earned $3.00. But it doesn't stop there, through Bux.to's referral program, you can earn $0.01 for every member that you refer and $0.01 for every ad that your referral clicks. So if you have referred 20 new members to Bux.to, you have already earned $0.20. Then if each of them clicks on 10 ads a day, you will earn 20 referrals x 10 ads x $0.01 per ad, you'll get $2.00 a day! And if they do this everyday, you'll earn $14.00 a week and $48.00 a month just on your referrals! Isn't that great?

Back-COLA of Teachers to be released soon - DepEd

After more than a decade of withholding the release of COLA or Cost of Living Allowance of teachers, DepEd said last Friday that it would finally release it.

My mother is one of the thousands of teachers awaiting their Back-COLa which is long overdue. According to my mother and her co-teachers, the COLA that they would be receiving, if DepEd would really release it, would amount to no less than 100,000 pesos! That's a lot of money for teachers who receive really low salaries. yet, this is just one of the woes of teachers in the Philippines.

Yet this is just one of the woes of being a teacher here in the Philippines.

I really pity our teachers here. They are the most underpaid professionals despite the fact that they are the ones who are molding up the future of this country. The 3000 peso wage increase that they have been lobbying ever since is neglected by the government.

I have once seen the payslip of my mother and I'm quite surprised to find a lot of deductions from their salary. Most are loans but one thing that rages me are the deductions that goes to GSIS or Government Service Insurance System amounting to more than a thousand pesos. Yet, when a teacher asks for a salary or emergency loan from GSIS, you have to wait a few months or even years to get it processed.

Lately, I have been accompanying my mother to GSIS main office in Pasay. And God, service is really bad. You have to wait for an hour or two for your name to be called. And what again made me angry is the fact that they would REQUIRE their pensionaires to go to their office for 'personal appearance' even though you are sick. During that particular day, I have seen two old men in wheelchair that looks like dying and an old lady brought in a stretcher.

And the 'palakasan' system is still there. You can get to process your documents fast if you know someone from inside. Just make a call and your document would be approved right away.

Wala talagang awa ang GSIS. Perang pinaghirapan na ng mga kawani ng pamahalaan ang kukunin nila tapos papahirapan pa din sila hanggang sa mamatay na sila.

And GSIS keeps on boasting that they are not bankrupt. They've got lots of investments and deposits in the treasury. Yet, why the slow process? And why there's a lot of red tape? Isn't it a sign that GSIS is slowly losing its funds because of mismanagement or corruption? (e.g. buying of Luna paintings, attempt to takeover Meralco, filing of libel cases against journalists, campaign contribution to GMA's presidential bid, etc.)

Yet, Winston Garcia is still there.

I just hope that when my mother is already retired, he would no longer be there and suffer the same fate GSIS members experienced.

National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week

This week, the Philippines would be celebrating the 28th National Disability and Prevention Week (July 17-23) with the theme "Kalikasan Pangalagaan: Kapansanan Maiiwasan". The week's events are spearheaded by the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) (formerly the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (NCWDP) by virtue of E.O. no. 709 last Feb. 26, 2008 renaming it to NCDA)

I think many of the Filipinos know that we have this kind of event (Not until I heard it over a radio program in DZMM, 'Consumer At Iba Pa.'). I was also kinda surprised that statistics shows that 10% of the 90 million Filipinos are disabled or the more politically correct term according to the United Nations, "persons with disabilities" or PWD. This include physical disabilities (blind, deaf, mute) and mental disabilities (autism, mental retardation).

Out of the 10%, only 2% of PWDs get the necessary treatment or rehabilitation services. One of the reasons is that most of PWDs are in the far-flung areas where a mix of no access to government services and superstitions are the main reasons. It is still widely believed in the provinces that once you had a child that is disabled, you are being punished for the wrongdoings that you have done and that your child is cursed. That is why the parents of these children would choose to hide them. But it is also interesting to note that some believe it is a gift of luck to have a child with disability.

As we all know, studying in special schools requires a lot of money, especialy those who are hearing-impaired or blind. Although some public schools are now offering special education classes, these are not enough to reach those who are in the provinces. We may have a lot of other problems to address but basic social services like these for our PWDs should be given.

Although, this would again bring up the question of what our government's priorities are.

And one piece of information I got was that since last year, PWDs can now avail of the 20% fare discount previously given only to senior citizens and students. Just go to your municipal or city social welfare officer to get an ID.

And as my final word, I would rather call our PWDs as "handi-capable." (as Mr. Joey Lina would call them) Well, because most of them are much capable of doing a lot of things unlike 'normal' persons. I just hope that they are given the chance to prove themselves. I applaud Filipino companies like Lamoiyan Corporation for employing hearing-impaired people in their workforce.

More power to the Filipino PWDs. Serve the PEOPLE.

The Philippine-American War

I would like to ask my fellow Filipino readers if they know anything about the Philippine-American War? Yeah, we have actually battled the superpower more than a hundred years ago. And because of this, they called us niggers, bandits, tulisan and bandido! Isn't it ironic to be called rebels in our own land?

It is also interesting to note that some US universities do not study it as a part of US history. Some say that it is because for almost a decade we have resisted Uncle Sam's offering of democracy but with a little pinch of colonization and imperialism; that still persists up to this day. But some American historians like Paul Kramer are recently bringing up to light that there was once a war that Filipinos waged against the Americans.

And also it is sad to note that this war is called by some academics and scholars of history as "The Philippine Insurrection" when it was these Americans who came to occupy us while we are struggling to become an independent nation. Besides, what are they doing here 10,000 miles away from home? It is clear that they REALLY want us and they want to USE us.

Does every Filipino who are queuing up at the doors of US embassy know that they killed more than 1,000,000 Filipinos during the war? And how could I ever forget 'Balangiga Massacre' wherein to avenge their defeat from us 'niggers', they ordered 'to kill everyone over ten.' And for everyone else's information, it was not the Japanese who used water cure as a torture method. It was these Americans who used it extensively during the Philippine-American War. And we should not be surprised that up to now, their 'prisoners of war' from Iraq or Afghanistan are suffering the same treatment in Guantanamo Bay.

Well, we should be proud that we are the ONLY country to have risen up to fight these imperialist for almost a decade. But it is very sad to note that public schools here in the Philippines do not take up much of the Philippine-American war. It is merely shown as a 'little incident' that happened and was easily 'eradicted'. Too much emphasis is given on the establishment of the Commonwealth and the 'Independence Missions' where in fact, we should not be begging for it because they are not the ones who own us. Besides, THIS IS OUR LAND. They have just grabbed it away from us.

And it is also interesting to note what William Howard Taft said in 1905 or 103 years ago:

"I have not come to give you (the Philippines) your independence, but to study your welfare. You will have your independence when you are ready for it, which will not be in this generation - no, nor in the next, nor perhaps for a 100 years or more."

And lo and behold, his word indeed came true. We may be 'free and independent' in essence but the Philippines is still held by America: economically and maybe politically. We are a 'neo-colony'. We still look up to Uncle Sam as our protector and giver. And we still allow their soldiers to roam freely in our ports and disguise it as 'military exercises' but in truth they are engaged in our own internal conflicts. We are still beholden by the enormous debt that is crippling our economy and eating up more than 50% of our annual national budget which can be used for delivering basic social services like education and health.

Kailan ba tayo mamumulat sa panloloko ng mga Kano sa atin? Kailan?

And this did not just happened to us: we have seen them invade Cuba, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq. They would always say that they are trying to bring world peace yet they are always the one who invade or starts the war. Well, it is not surprising that they would just create a conflict out of nowhere. It is just to use their huge 'military-industrial complex' to boost their economy and of course, power.

They seem to feel that they are the rightful owners of these world. But wake up Joe, THE WORLD IS NOT YOURS. You cannot just meddle into anybody's affairs. You should not say what is right. Because what could be right for you, would not be right for everybody else. Look at what you did to Iraq, the whole country is in total chaos. The situation was a lot better before you came. You did gave them democracy but what happened? You divided the country. Pitting one group against the other.

Anyway, I hope that the Philippine-American War is no longer an "Invisible War" in the minds of my readers.

Gloria Arroyo Is No Longer the President of the Philippines

So let's just wait for her to come down, hopefully. One wrong move to manipulate our constitution again, she will REALLY pay dearly for what she would be doing. Well, that's her only last option. Of all the scandals, scams and controversies that hounded her administration, would she want to go down? Maybe not. So we all need to be vigilant. And say NO to more terms of office for Gloria Arroyo.

Dried Up

My mind is currently on drought. And my spirit too. Recently, I have read again the story of Job. There is this certain verse that really captured my attention. I just forgot to bring my list of all the bible passages I like. Just as I have said. My mind is on drought. And the brain cells are on strike. And right now, it is the viruses that's doing all the work.

I hope they do come back soon.

Well, not only my brain cells are on strike but my past self as well. It had already left me. And to anyone who have seen him wandering, just let me know so that we could talk things over and be normal again. And who is this 'past self'? Ako iyun. Iyung ako noong unang panahon. Noong hindi pa ako nagkakaganito. Pesteng buhay.

To YOU up there, kelan ba ito matatapos? I have always been asking you to please take me away. No, don't take me away. Just blot me out. Remove me from existence. And let no traces of me be left. Not even memories. Please. I do hope that you are going to answer my prayer. Kahit itong dasal ko na lang na ito ang sagutin mo, masaya na ako. Kahit mawawala na ako.

I know this is just a selfish way to evade all those things that are haunting me. But please. For the last time. Heed my prayer. That's all.

1. Isang ordinaryong pilipino sinaliksik, inalam at natutunan kung anu-ano ang mga dahilan ng pagbagsak ng ekonomiya ng Pilipinas. Epekto? (Isipin…)

2. Isang tahimik na pilipino na marunong sumulat, naliwanagan kung ano ang kayang gawin ng isang panulat sa kinabukasan ng isang bansa. Epekto? (Isipin…)

3. Isang “corrupt” na magulang nakabasa ng katotohanan kung anu-ano ang epekto ng “corruption” sa hinaharap na kaligtasan ng kanyang sariling mga anak at ang mga apo. Epekto? (Isipin…)

II. Ang Batas ng Atraksyon (Law of Attraction): Sikreto ng Isang Tunay na Agimat

“Lahat ng bagay na dumarating sa loob ng iyong buhay ay siya ring mga bagay na inakit mo papunta sa loob ng iyong buhay. At iyan ay na-akit sa iyo sa pamamagitan ng mga larawang iyong hinahawakan sa loob ng iyong pag-iisip. Iyan ay ang mismong ini-isip mo. Anu man ang umiikot sa loob ng iyong pag-iisip ay siya ring na-aakit mo papunta sa iyo” (Ito ay hango sa librong “The Secret” ni Rhonda Byrne ng Beyond Words Publishing 2006). At ayon pa kay Prentice Mulford (1834 – 1891), “Ang bawat isip na mula sa iyo ay isang totoong bagay –isang puwersa.”

Malakas ang pagsang-ayon ng Agimat.org sa batas na ito kung kaya’t naniniwala ang mga miyembro na hindi imposibleng mapa-ayos ulit ang pamumuhay sa bansang Pilipinas.

Samakatwid, mula sa batas ng atraksyon, ating natutunan na kung ang ating isip ay isang puwersa na makaka-akit ng pagkakaganap, dapat lang na ang ilalaman natin sa isip ay mga mabubuting bagay lamang.

III. Ang Liwanag sa Dilim

Ang “slogan” naman sa logo ng Agimat.org ay bunga ng inspirasyong natanggap mula sa awiting “Liwanag sa Dilim” ng Rivermaya. Gaya sa awitin, ang Agimat.org ay sampalataya sa kakayahan ng bawat Pilipino, na ang bawat isa ay ma-a-aring magsilbing liwanag sa dilim maging ikaw man ay mahirap o mayaman. Renovations

In the next few weeks, I'm going to renovate my blog. I'm going to clean up some of not so important features and one of these is completely removing my other blogs but retaining one of them which is Ipagtanggol ang Simbahan.

Si Ka Pepe at Ang Kanyang El Filibusterismo

Part 1

Recently, I have been drawn again to re-read one of Dr. Jose Rizal's masterpieces: "El Filibusterismo." I don't know why but there is a certain calling within me that want me to read it again. Lo and behold, El Fili is REALLY a MUST-READ for every Filipino.

At sa pagdiriwang ng ika-147 taong kaarawan ng ating dakilang pambansang bayani, Gat. Jose Rizal, aking itataas sa kamalayan ng mga Pilipino ang isa sa pinakamalaking ambag niya sa ating pagka-Pilipino: Ang El Filibusterismo.

Relevance of El Fili

Some would say that El Filibusterismo of Rizal is an out-dated novel that needs reality check for it to become relevant to our time. Many would say that a lot has changed and it doesn't reflect contemporary Philippine society. Some would even say that El Fili is now just plain and simple fictional literary piece; and a good material for a movie script.

Some also say that the brand of NATIONALISM it promotes is useless in this day and age of GLOBLIZATION. We are now citizens of the world. We no longer need to have loyalty to particular race or country. Nationalism only gets in the way of free trade, economic prosperity and freedom. It is only useful in times of war but there is none in sight.

Sorry, but I beg to COMPLETELY DISAGREE.

The Real Picture

Rizal's El Filibusterismo still clearly reflects our current situation. We have the same ills and problems that had remained virtually unchanged for centuries. The same ways of the Filipinos are still evident in our time. We may not have the abusive friars and Spanish conquistadores wrecking havoc in our land but a lot of their 'incarnations' are still hounding over us.

What are these problems? Let me cut it into different parts and relate each of these in the novel and our current situation.

Education in El Fili

I believe Rizal is the true epitome of a well-rounded student. He doesn't excel only at academics or in sports but is also aware of what is happening around him. He knows that he is part of the few lucky Filipinos during that time, that can afford to go to school. And that is why he didn't left out that issue of education in El Fili. Although most of the schools then are held by Spanish friars, wala it halos pinagkaiba sa sitwasyon natin ngayon.

He knew that access to good schools and universities giving quality education is determined on how much are you willing to pay. In his novel, we see this through Basilio wherein without the help of Kapitan Tiago, he can never go to school. Another example is Placido Penitente. His parents sold everything that they have so that he could study and graduate as a lawyer. (According to the novel, college students have only two careers to choose; either you become a lawyer or a doctor.)

Placido is also an example of a bright and idealistic student that was not given a chance to use it because of the rotten educational system. Padre Millon in this novel is an example of a corrupt professor who treats his student unfairly. You can all read at chapters 12 and 13.

Walang Pinagkaiba

Just like in El Fili, we still have an educational system that is only accessible to those who have the material wealth to pay for it, specially if you want quality education in a good school with good facilities and teachers. We may have a free public education up to high school but it is marked by lack of classrooms, chairs, books and toilets, underpaid and overworked teachers and a high number of dropouts due to different factors. (e.g. poverty)

In addition to this budget for education had been drastically cut since 2001. It may have increased nominally and at the top of the budget priorities (well actually debt service gets the bigger share) but its real value is far from what the education sector need.On the other hand, tuition fees re at an all time high. Schools are now seen more as a profitable venture rather than delivering quality education and producing best graduates.

Many of these schools are on the tertiary level wherein they are supposed to prepare the students for their chosen careers; not to suck out every centavo that they have. Even with the courses that they are offering, most of them are always geared towards a high-paying job. And once noble professions like nursing are now seen as cash cows. The sense of service and passion for their chosen profession is no longer important. It's all about money now.

And these schools also spend hundreds of thousands in advertising. College education is now treated in the same level as detergent bars, shampoos and deodorant; it has now become a commodity and privilege rather than a RIGHT. Some even offer discount, just like a mall on a 3-day sale.

And in this bandwagon of commercialized education, the government doesn't want to be left out.

Corporate University

The Arroyo regime is currently pushing State Colleges and Universities (SCUs) to adopt schemes to raise tuition and other fees. This is in line with Long-Term Higher Education Development Plan of this regime to make all SCUs fiscally autonomous by 2010. It means there is no more state subsidy for SCUs. So to pressure them to hurry up, the government have drastically cut budgets of SCU's since 2001. And one of the first to heed the 'call' was UP.

University of the Philippines is currently celebrating its 100 years of existence. But I would personally say that UP had died last December 15, 2006 when the traitors passed TOFI (Tuition and Other Fee Increase). UP is no longer a UNIVERSITY OF THE PEOPLE. It has sold its lands to corporations to put up a mall and call centers. They are now serving the interests of the business, the few filthy rich kids and the global market.

Malungkot na ganito pa rin ang ating kalagayan. Kung may nagbago man, mas lalo lang lumala. Pera ang nagpapaikot ng edukasyon. Kailan kaya ito magwawakas. Sana malapit na.

At malamang malungkot si Rizal sa kanyang kaarawan ngayon.

School Time, Again

Millions of Filipino children are back to school; to public schools where the student to teacher ratio is more than 1:50 if we do not apply the double-shift system, where we still lack classrooms, chairs and books which the government denies, where teachers are underpaid and some of the best teachers turning into nurses, call center agents and caregivers and to private schools where tuition fees are "reasonably high" and miscellaneous fees are really 'miscellaneous' because you don't know where it goes and what is it for. Part of these comeback are the college hopefuls who made it out of the many of their peers that cannot go on.

And because of 'market demand', maybe almost half of the incoming freshmen students are to take up nursing (2006 figures pegged nursing students at 453,896). I have nothing against this profession but I would like to inform you of the facts.

Approximately, a nursing student has to shell out at at least P300,000 pesos to be able to finish his/her studies and to take all the necessary exams. Pero kung maswerte kang makakapagtrabaho sa ibang bansa gaya ng US, UK o Saudi Arabia, mababawi mo ang lahat ng gastos mo sa isang taon, may sukli ka pa. But that is if you can go out of the country.

I would just like to inform you that over the years demand for nurses have been steadily going down.

For example in 2001, a total of 13,822 nurses have been deployed whereas in 2006, it dropped to 8,528.

We can also see this in the top destinations for deployment of nurses.

For example, in Saudi Arabia which is the top employer of Filipino nurses hired 5,275 nurses in 2001. But in 2006 it dropped almost 50% with only 2,886 nurses. Take also the case of UK wherein the peak of hiring nurses was in 2001 where they employed 5,388 nurses but that dropped to a whooping 139 in 2006.

Just imagine the number of nursing students in 2006: 453,896. Not all of them are going to land in the nursing profession. Maybe some of them would become caregivers or nursing assistants or even call center agents. It's just sad that the 'service' aspect of nursing is overpowered by its 'profitability'. I just hope that these nurses who have already earned millions of pesos abroad that they will come back and put the 'service' aspect of nursing back in our health care system.

And to the students of nursing, there is nothing wrong with earning thousands of dollars abroad to help your families but I just do hope that you really like nursing not just for the sake of money.

Two Years in the Blogosphere

On the 29th of May 2008, It's going to be TWO YEARS ever since I've started blogging. And as a part of this 'glorious' event in my life, here are the few things I did to 'celebrate' my two years of existence in the blogosphere:

We are (not) the Future

The Philippines is now in crisis, or for almost its entire lifetime as a republic. And in times like this, the entire nation is depending upon the hope of the nation: the youth. But let me give you the reasons why you shouldn't hope on today's generation of the youth; sa wikang Filipino.

Mahirap iasa sa amin ang kinabukasan ng bayan ngayon.

Mahirap iasa ito sa mga kabataang buong araw na nakasaksak sa tenga ang mga earphone at buong lakas na nakikinig sa kanilang MP3 player o iPod na wala nang pakialam sa mga nangyayari sa paligid niya. Mas mahalaga pa sa kanya na dapat updated ang mga kanta niya. Hindi mo na halos makausap dahil abala siya sa sarili niyang mundo. Mas magandang pag-usapan ang tungkol sa latest na gadget o cool fashion. Mas kilala pa ng kabataan ngayon si Britney Spears, Maroon 5, Mariah Carey o si Madonna kaysa kina Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo o si Graciano Lopez - Jaena. Malamang din na iilan lang ang nakakakilala kay Hermano Pule.

Mahirap iasa ang lagay ng edukasyon sa mga kabataan, lalo na iyung mga nasa hayskul at kolehiyo, ngayon na ang paaralan nila na kung 'di internet cafe, mga bilyaran, MOA at paminsan minsan mga beer house o club. May ilang namang pumapasok lang para makita ang kanilang crush. Mas mahalaga pa ang kwentuhan kaysa ang nilalaman ng lesson. May ilan naman na umaasa nalang sa katabi para sa kanyang assignment. At may mga garapalan naman ang pagngongodigo at pangongopya tuwing may exam.

Mahirap din naman iasa sa mga gifted children ang kinabukasan ng bansa. Bukod sa iilan lang ang mga batang ito, hindi nila nagagamit ang kanilang mga extraordinaryong talento para makatulong sa pag-ahon ng iba. Hanggang sa pagbibigay karangalan lamang ang kaya nilang iabot. Ngunit hindi naman ito makakain ng pangkaraniwang tao. Ni hindi nga nila nakikita ang mga batang ito kung sila ay nagtatanghal ng biyolin o piyano dahil sa isinasagawa ito sa mga mamahaling teatro; na hindi abot ng karamihan.

Mahirap iasa ang ating kalusugan sa mga kabataan ngayon. Ang pagiging nars ngayon ay hindi na nangangahulugang paglilingkod sa mga maysakit kundi ang pagkita ng dolyar sa ibang bansa. Masyado nang makasarili. Wala namang masama sa pangingibang-bayan. Sana lang pagkatapos nilang yumaman, bumalik sila dito para tumulong sa pagbangon ng mga kapwa Pilipino nilang hindi kasing swerte sa buhay. Sana lang hindi rin nila makalimutan kung saan sila nanggaling.

Mahirap iasa ang moralidad ng ating bansa ngayon sa kamay ng mga kabataan. Halos hindi na iginagalang ang pakikipagtalik. Hindi na mahalaga ang maging tapat sa iisang partner. Pagiging martir na daw ito. Normal na lang daw ang makipagtalik sa maraming tao. Kung buntis, ipalaglag na lang. Wala nang paggalang sa katawan. Bangag din sa ipinagbabawal na gamot ang karamihan. Lahat ng antas ng lipunan: mula sa mga nakatira sa mga mansyon ng Corinthian Gardens hanggang sa tambakan ng basura sa Payatas.

Mahirap din iasa sa mga radikal, aktibista o maka-kaliwa ang kinabukasan natin. Tunay naman ang kanilang ipinaglalaban. Ang mga hinaing ng taong bayan ay hinaing din nila. Trabaho, edukasyon, kalusugan, karapatang pantao at iba pa. Ngunit unti-unti na silang nalalayo sa mga taong nais nilang paglingkuran. Hindi na sila nauunawaan. Nasa pedestal na sila kung saan hirap na maarok ng mga tao kung ano ang kanilang sinasabi. Hindi nila namamalayan pero nagiging mayabang na sila; para bang alam na nila lahat ang solusyon at hindi na kailangan pa makinig sa kanila. Wala naman sila maibigay na konkretong solusyon sa mga problema. Iba na rin ang tingin ng mga 'middle class' sa kanila: nagdudulot ng trapiko, kalat at kaguluhan. Hindi nila kasi ipinapaunawa sa mga taon kung para saan ang ginagawa nila. May mga programa naman sila na 'basic masses integration' na kung saan nakikihalubilo sila sa mga tao. Dapat na dito sila magsimula. Para maging talagang nagkakaisa ang lahat. Pero kung lulundag agad sila sa patalsikin mode, lalo lamang sila nalalayo sa puso ng mga tao.

Mahirap din namang iasa sa Sangguniang Kabataan ang pagbabago sa takbo ng gobyerno na ang konsepto ng paglilingkod ay ang buwanang konsiyerto na hindi mo malaman kung ano ang layunin: magbigay saya, mag-ingay o magkalat. Pero mukhang mas tumpak ang mag-ingay dahil sa talagang hindi ka patutulugin hanggang madaling-araw. Ang mga sana'y magiging susunod na lider ng bansa ay mas nais pa na mag-party buong magdamag, kaysa iubos ang lakas sa pagpapanibago ng kanilang mga komunidad sa pamamagitan ng pagsasagawa ng mga makabuluhang proyekto gaya ng pagsusulong ng pagbabasa sa mga bata. Pero nasa unang prayoridad nila ang mga proyekto gaya ng Miss Gay, RakRakan, Pasiklaband, at kung anu-ano pang kapritso na nagtatapon lang ng pera.

Ngayon, kung hindi sa amin kanino dapat iasa ang ating kinabukasan?

Sa mga sanggol na hindi pa nagsisimulang gumapang, alagaan silang mabuti. Palakihin na may takot sa Diyos, respeto sa magulang, paggalang sa buhay, may pagpapahalaga sa edukasyon at pagnanais na gamitin ang kanyang kagalingan at talento upang makapalingkod sa iba at makagawa ng pagbabago sa kanilang buhay at hindi upang iangat lamang ang kaniyang sarili. Masyadong idealistic ngunit mangyari man lamang ang isa sa mga ito, nakakasiguro tayo na nasa mabuting kamay ang ating kinabukasan.

Pero kahit papano, hindi naman totoo sa lahat ng kabataan ang mga nabanggit sa itaas. At hindi rin naman nila minsan kasalanan kung ganun ang kanilang naging buhay. Minsan dahil rin sa mga magulang na masyadong nagiging 'spoiled' ang kanilang mga anak. 'Ika nga, laki sa layaw. Ngunit para sa mga napabilang sa mga nabanggit, gaya ko, kahit ano pa ang dahilan, isang bagay lamang ang maaari pang makapagbaliktad ng sitwasyon: pagsisihan ang nagawang pagkakamali. Pero ulit, mahirap sa amin na mapagtanto ang kamalian nagawa namin; lalo na't nag-eenjoy pa kami sa kanilang ginagawa. Pero sana lang, bago pa kami tumanda at maging cynical sa buhay, magampanan namin ang tungkuling magdala ng bagong pag-asa at pagbabago sa ating bayan.

Spinning Lies

I don't know what my title means. I didn't even lift a finger to know what that means. I have probably heard or seen it before but I'm not sure. It's just right now I'm living on lies.

I lied to everybody else I know and loved. I told them that I don't have any problem. The truth is I'm on the brink of being evicted from my school. I'm probably one of the few rotten eggs in UP that got the grade of 5 in almost all of the subjects I have taken this semester. And I just don't know what to do..

Before, I would stay up late just to watch my favorite late-night public affairs program or finish a project. But now, I would stay awake at night just to wait for everybody else to sleep so that I could cry..

I'm crying because I've ruined my life. I've wasted the chance that He gave me. I could've done the other way around but I chose to be stupid and stubborn. I chose to let a year pass by without doing anything right. I chose to burn 12,000 pesos that should have been put to good use; instead of sending a useless 18 year-old to study.

I really knew it from the very start. My college life would be disastrous. It will lead me to nowhere. But I've got no choice but to study. A lot of people are expecting a lot from me. I can't bring them down. But I have forgotten I have my life too. I've been living too much on their expectations. That's when I started to live on lies..

One lie after another.. I didn't see that the web of lies that I've created has already trapped me. I tried to broke it off but I can't. Then my life started to fall down slowly to pieces.. I didn't even bother to pick it up and glue the pieces together..

And now, I'm at the crossroads; and I'm tired. I have thought of killing myself but I am too coward to do it. That's why at one point in my life, I have prayed that He take away my life so that someone could use it for good. I want Him to completely erase me. Erase all the memories that I have inflicted on everybody. I don't want to be remembered. I just want to disappear that nobody would know me.

That way, my stupidity has finally given the justice it deserved.

Still, I'm clinging on the last strand of hope and strength I have. I do hope I can still move on.. Tama na.. Naiiyak na naman ako.. Wala pa sa oras.. It's just 11:45 PM.. My sister's still awake.. My precious jewel.. I'm sorry.. Kuya failed you.. Kuya failed everybody else.. And Kuya deserves to be punished real bad..

Single Moms

These past few months, I've noticed that there are a lot of single mom bloggers in the blogosphere. Oh well not only single mom bloggers but famous personalities and some neighbors as well. Where are the fathers of these children?!

I am ashamed that some few rotten eggs that belong to our gender are very irresponsible and immature. Hindi nila kayang panindigan ang kanilang ginawa. After they had released their sexual tensions and horniness, o sabi nga natin kapag nakuha na nila ang kanilang gusto, they just simply break up with the girl and would fled to the next 'victim.' Then after a few weeks, the girl would just realized that she has just got pregnant and the culprit is nowhere to be found. She is left with two choices: to give up or move on.

Kaunting paglihis sa topic.

I completely do not agree with abortion. Every child that a mother bears whether it is unwanted or that they have discovered that the child have disorders or sickness, is still a blessing. That child may be an additional burden but as most pro-life advocates would simply argue, 'what if that child would become the next president of this country that would uplift us from from poverty or the next superstar or a big name in business. There is also a perception among some of our fellow citizens that a fetus is just blood. Eh bakit? Tinatawag ba natin ang isang buntis na nagdadalang-dugo siya? 'Di ba't ang tawag natin ay nagdadalang-tao? Sorry I'm losing my cool but the argument's right. Even by the way we call pregnant mothers, we regard that thing inside that tummy as a human being, not just plain and simple blood.

But I could understand some mothers who would rather lose the child than to lose the respect of others and recieve all the humiliation and defamation from others. But that could be averted if the people around would be supportive of her. And that would be easy for a mother to move on.

We do not need reproductive rights. What we need is a society that doesn't condemn unwanted pregancies. What we need is proper education to children like us that things like sex is not a thing to be played with. What we need is a culture that protects and respects life.

Oops.. I'm gettng a bit far off from my topic. But anyway it is still related. :D

Anyway, going back to what I've been talking about, if a mother chooses to give up, we cannot blame her. I have already mentioned the reasons above. And if she chose to move on, that is really one big, brave step. I really salute those single moms that fought for their child. No one can really compare the love that mothers can give to us. What more if she is the only who raises her child/ren, I really salute them.

And to those 'men' who left these single mothers, mas bakla pa kayo sa bakla. Buti pa ang bakla kayang panindigan na bakla siya, pero kayo na mga 'tunay na lalake' nagtatago sa saya ng nanay niyo. Itinatanggi niyo pa na kayo ang gumawa. Haaay.. sana maputol ang *censored* niyo!!! Hahahaha.. :D

And to all of my 'co-genders', be responsible enough for your actions. One minute of ecstasy would be endless days and nights of despair for these women. Tayo ang may pantusok kaya dapat na maging respondable ka. Hindi iyan basta tusok ka ng tusok. Huwag kang tumulad sa mga aso na ilan ang binubuntis. Hindi ka aso. Tao ka. Try to control yourself. And please, don't fool your girlfriends that 'sex' is an essential part of your relationship. If that's your reason for having a girlfriend, back off man. Maligo ka ng tubig na may yelo at kung wala pa rin, ikiskis mo na lang yan sa pader. hahaha.. :D

And a piece of advice to the ladies, you've got the power. You can always say no. Unless they forced you, don't be afraid to cry rape. They should pay for what they have done to you. A lot of NGO's and support groups are here to help you. Don't be afraid to come out and stand for your right.

Speaking of famous personalities, who among us these days would not know that Gabby Concepcion's back home. We all know the fairy tale story of Sharon and Gabby and their beautiful daughter KC Concepcion. And this is one good example for my topic. Although, they got married after Sharon concieved KC, they eventually broke up and Sharon was left to fend for her daughter. And attention to those irresponsible fathers out there: hindi tinakasan ni Gabby ang responsibilidad niya sa kanyang anak kahit pa nagkahiwalay sila ni Sharon.

Although the two former love birds still 'hates' each other, Sharon didn't raised KC to hate her father. Instead she let KC know what happened at hindi niya ito ipinagkait kay Gabby and eventually accepted it all and look at her now: succesful and contented with life.

So single, divorced or annuled moms, there's still hope. I believe that those who surpassed the most difficult trials in life are those who would really become winners in life.

Blogging No More

It's been a long time since I've last logged on the web. I've missed seeing my blog, hehe.. :D I'm actually writing some good posts that I would be showing to you guys in the coming days. Hope you'll be there when it shows up. :)

Anyway, a lot had happened the past few weeks. And most of the time, I'm depressed, I just hope I can get over it. Nakakapagod na kasi magkunwari na masaya ka pero hindi naman pala.I just don't when I should tell them. And I hope, no would ask why: kung bakit ba umabot sa ganito. I just want them to understand me. That the cream of the crop got sour and stupid. I just want to set things right. Start a new life. And maybe even going out of school just to let myself know what to do with my life. Maybe take a vocational course. Basta kahit ano; magbago lang buhay ko.

Still, I'm holding on to HIM. And to her, thank you for understanding the stupidity of the person you love.

Bob Ong Had Just Re-Inspired Me

Last night, I have finished reading Bob Ong's 5th book "Stainless Longgnisa." This one's really different from the other books tht he wrote. Or maybe he really makes sure that every book that he releases would not seem like a trilogy or a continuation of a previous book. Anyway, he talks about how he wrote the previous books and how he is with his life as a writer.

If anybody of you had read his book "ABNKKBSNPLAko?", you can somehow see a resemblance of what is happening in my life right now, specially on the part wherein he tells us about his college life. Hindi ko nga alam pero pakiramdam ko noong unang nabasa ko ang libro na iyun, nakita ko na ang mga mangyayari sa aking buhay pagdating ng kolehiyo. Hindi nga ako nagkamali.

Right now, Mr. Bob Ong had just reinspired me to continue with my plans of writing my very first book. I have been planning on doing this for a very long time. And all of those planning wasted my time until my interest would wane again and my plans would be put on hold. Again, I'm reviving my plans on 'releasing' my first ever book.

I'm giving myself 3 months to finish my book. What is my purpose in writing my book? Just like every writer, I hope that through my book, I would be able to inspire others; most specially those of my age. I would want them to learn something from the kind of life I had and try to understand others who may be experiencing the same life I have. I would also want to inspire others to write too. I really do believe that something that is can change a lot or everything: from view, opinions, perspectives nd even principles in life. Whether it be in the form of a blog, newspaper article, pamphlet, poster or a book, it will have an impact on its readers. Kahit pa napaka-walang kwenta nito. You would still be affected.

That's why I created this blog. Not to gain popularity or a lot of friends but to make a difference in the life of my visitors. I would like to give them not what they want but what they need to know. In the coming days, I would be trying to review the 'tradition' of my previous blogs to create articles talking about different topics.

And I do really hope that I can finish my book. And to start the ball rolling, I'm reading a lot of books right now. I'm currently reading on "Looking Back" by Ambeth Ocampo, the famous historian that really rocked the world of Philippine history. The book is a collection of article from his column t the Philippine Daily Inquirer. It is quite an old book but a good read most especially if you think history is boring. Watch out for the part wherein he discusses about the atrocities that the Americans committed during the Philippine-American War. Baka biglang magbago ang tingin mo sa Amerika at baka suriin mo ngayon kung hanggang ngayon ba ganun pa din ang ginagawa nila.

Regarding my job hunting adventures, as I have mentioned in my previous post I didn't get the job.And I really do hope to find one. At least, I got some idea now how the application process works at the call centers. I really need a job so I can help my parents pay our debts to a lot of people.

As with my life right now, I feel much closer to God now. I think I have somehow finally found my peace in Him. I do hope my plans and decisions have His blessing and that it is according to His will. I do really feel much better now. Thank you for your prayers.

Job Hunting is NOT related to PINAY SEX SCANDAL. But the other one would probably help a lot in driving traffic from pervert surfers in the net. This is my first try at using SEO. I have read a lot of articles discussing these SEO thing. And now, I'm joining them.

Today, I started my 'real' job hunting spree. Because most of the job huntings that I've done in the past were through online submission which gained no results. I went to a certain call center company along Commonwealth Avenue. It is not a popular or well-heard of call center company in the Philippines. Itago na lang natin ito sa alyas na CTI.

Together with my girlfriend, we went there at about 9 A.M. We passed on our resumes to the security guard on the counter and waited until 10 A.M. for the exam. Then we took the exam. Gladly at hindi naman sa pagmamayabang, I got the highest score in the test: 201 points out of I think 250 or 300 items. It was really a good start. She also passed.

Then they asked us to come back by 1:30 for the oral exam. Then to make the long story short because I'm running out of time here at the internet cafe, the interview was done through some sort of a phone. When it was my time to take the test, the questions that the interviewer asked were a lot different from my batch mates. We were given a paper with words that we should read but I didn't read it. I was quite confident with how I answered the questions.

Pero sumablay ako sa tanong tungkol sa trabaho at sa sweldo. I just answered honestly that the high salary was the first thing that motivated me to apply in this job and to help augment our family's income. Then he asked me about the salary, I just said that I expect my salary to be not lower than 10,000 pesos. Then he asked me if 13,000 pesos would be alright. I said yes and even said that it was a lot bigger than my mother's.

Basta, the experience was worth it. Madami pa naman diyan.

And to the perverts that ended up reading my site hoping to find pinay sex scandals here, buti nga sa inyo, hahaha... Anyway keep on coming back for more. :D

Crying Man

Hindi ako nahihiya na sabihin sa lahat ng tao na iyakin ako. Yes, I would cry every now and then and just before I slept last night, I cried.

Lately, I've been making a lot of wrong decisions. And right now, I'm still suffering from the consequences of those stupid decisions. I have not been studying well this semester. My grades are really bad. An my only hope is that one subject which is not really related to my course. Even with my course, I'm having second thoughts on whether I should continue or not. And even with my alma mater, the school that every student would want to enter, I'm thinking of leaving it.

It may be another stupid decision but I want to escape from the pains it has caused me. Oo, naghahanap ako ng isang mabilisang pagtakas sa mga problema na kinakaharap ko ngayon. I know that there is no short cut way to success. Everything has to be done step by step. There is no such thing as instant prosperity and good life. But at this point in my life, I would rather choose to escape from it all.

Last Friday, my mother and I went to Quiapo church. It was not part of our plans for that day but since it was still early and it was Friday, we decided to go there. It was my first time to go there. I've heard a lot of stories that many have received miracles through the intercession of the Black Nazarene.

And so I prayed. But again, without knowing why, I cried. My prayer was simple: Help me get through this mess I've created.

And I hope, this would really end as soon as possible.

And to someone out there, I have to do that so that I can see you happy, even if I'm not the one causing your happiness.

As for my blog, I would soon be closing down some of my other blogs. I would just try to focus on maybe two or three blogs.

and to HIM, up there, I would really want to start a new life, please tell me how to do it.

It's been a long time since I got busy on the net. Since we've got no internet connection at home, I have to save up a part of my allowance just to be 'online.' But I hope this year I can get to buy a new PC (kasi tinotopak iyung PC namin sa bahay at ayaw gumana ang internet) and a fast internet connection.

Well, my Holy Week have been somehow fruitful although I spent most of time sleeping., hehe.. Anyway, I just stayed at home and tried to reflect on what I am going to do next with my life and with what is happening to my beloved motherland.

This coming week is an exciting one. New opportunities. And hopefully a new chance at life.

Kahapon ko lang narealize kung gaano ba kahalaga ang muling pagkabuhay ni Kristo at pati na ang kahalagahan ng Sabado de Gloria.

Black Saturday or Sabado de Gloria is the holiest of all the nights we have. Much holier than the Christmas night. Sapagkat sa gabing ito, matagumpay na nagapi ni Kristo ang kamatayan sa pamamagitan ng pagkabuhay na magmuli. That's why we have this joyful and glorious Easter vigil celebration to commemorate that single even that cause the salvation of mankind from sin.

Except for a few un-holy scenes that I saw during last night's Easter vigil (e.g. some teenagers making out in a corner), it was indeed a glorious night.

Let's start.

First is about Marian Rivera. Oh yes everybody knew her these days because of her hit TV show 'MariMar' wherein she plays the lead role. Well, I just noticed that when she answers questions in an interview, it seems that she does not know what to say. Or I must say she cannot give out 'intelligent answers.' I don't know with other people but as for me everytime I would hear her answer, hindi ko mapigilan ang mapailing sa mga pinagsasabi niya.

Well, maybe it can be attributed to the fact that she's still new. But hey, a lot of artists and stars out there who are even 'newer' than her are a lot more 'intelligent' with the way they answer questions.

Maybe the Marian fans out there can answer why she is like that. Anyway, I just noticed it and I can't help myself to write this on my blog.

Next, Pacquiao.

He did it again. He crushed another Mexican fighter. But honestly, I wasn't contented with how he fought Marquez. I thought he would pin the man down on that fateful 3rd round. He could have done better. Well, I'm still happy that he won.

I'm just a bit upset when I saw the faces of corruption around Pacquiao. Well, sino pa nga ba? They should have just stayed outside and waited for him to come down. Hindi iyung para silang mga tuko na mas excited pa ata kay Pacquiao. Nasira tuloy ang view. Haay.. Anyway, the Filipinos salutes you PACMAN!

Last, Holy Week.

I really need this vacation. I need to refresh and recharge my soul. The way things are happening in my life now are becoming too emotionally stressful for me. And I need to rethink a lot of things. And I need to reconnect to HIM. I have been disconnected for quite a while.

A New Beginning

New life. New beginning. It’s been three days since I turned 18. Now, I’m of legal age. I can get married. Buy those glossy magazines with cover girls in skimpy bikini without guilt. Drink beer, wine, gin, vodka, etc. legally. Enter those nightclubs slash prostitution dens. Watch R-18 movies without guilt again. And once I committed a crime, I won’t be turned over to DSWD but rather be put to jail.

But above it all these nonsense, new responsibilities and challenges awaits me. Although at this point, my life is falling down to pieces, I’m still here; fighting and struggling to get out of the mess that I created.

During the past year, I’ve made a lot of major decisions in my life. And I admit, this was the only time of my life wherein I’m actually deciding for myself. And most of these decisions were not favorable to others, especially to my parents. I don’t know if I made the wrong decisions but one thing is for sure; after this, I’d be a better person.

No one really knows what I’m going through, no one. Although they may have a hint of it, I have not confide myself to anybody. Not even my close friends or even my… never mind. But there’s one person who knows it all, even though I’ve not told him. He knows what I’m planning to do. And I hope, he would not leave me, as everybody seemed to have left me.

My main page for my blog has a new look. It was out of nowhere that I decided to change it. I’ve tried the new version of Blogger wherein you can easily edit out the page elements. I’m also trying to monetize my blog. Why? It’s a part of my plan.

And what’s that plan? No one knows but Him.

I hope that this first major decision of my life after I turned 18 this month would help me save my life that’s falling down to pieces. I’m not an emo. But I’m too much emotional during the past years.

Rebirth

I love the word: rebirth. We are all born once. But at some point in our lives, we would be born again. I’m not referring to the different Christian denominations/religions but to that state of being wherein you have just emerged from something so nasty, so painful and so dark that after everything that happened, you would turn out to be a better person.

And that is what I’m hoping for: a rebirth; a new life.

The past few years have not been so good to me. A lot had happened. But mostly, not so good events that really, really brought me down. And yet, here I am: alive and kicking.

I thought it would be all over soon. But as the days, months and the years pass by, it seems to be greater. More sufferings. More failures. It was just the beginning.

And the climax came on the last few months of the 17th year of my life. And even up to this time, hindi pa natatapos ang lahat.

Twelve hours ago, I turned 18. And yet, my spirit is still down. Really down. I’ve been actually sick for a month now. My cough won’t just go away.

Anyway, I’m still hoping that the following year would be better.

And to YOU up there, who is looking down on us, mightier than anyone or anything and who never left us in every step of our way. I’m sorry for doubting you once. I’ll never do it again. I believe you had a plan for me. And by the way, remember that once I told you: Paki batukan naman ako. And yes, it all happened. But you never did it to me. You made me do it to myself. And again, I’m asking you: please help me to live a new life with you. Serving you and the people you dearly love. Please. I beg of you. Maawa ka po sa hampas-lupang gaya ko.

Habang tahimik ang lahat kahapon nakita ko ang isang maliit na papel (actually isang short bond paper) na nakapatong sa aking lamesa. Binas ko ang nilalaman nito. And I liked it. Very timely for wht is happening to our country nowadays. And to what our honorable politicians did with our country.

Seven years is enough, as one group said. And truly, enough is enough. We cannot have more of these scams, scandals, graft, corruption and blatant violation of human rights. We don't need an economist who doesn't even care about her people and all she boasts are the numbers and figures which people cannot eat.

It's about time my fellow Filipinos to take away the power we have given them. It's about time to stand side by side without those politicos around. It is time that we do not depend on the calls of the church or some charismatic leader for us to get involved and stand up for real change in our country.

It is time for us to change the country without them.

Matagal na mula nang huli akong nagparamdam sa aking mga blogs dito. Marahil dahil sa dami ng mga nagdaan nitong 2007. Halo-halo. Nahilo na yata ako. Pero heto. Buhay pa rin ako. Ngayong 2008, magsisimula ang bagong kwento. Bagong ako. Bagong pag-ibig.

Ipagpapatuloy ang mga nasimulan ko nang laban. I may have been defeated several times last year and have not yet recovered from them, still I'm going on to fight. Laban lang ng laban. Araw-araw man nila akong pabagsakin. Tatayo pa rin ako.

I lost the SK Elections but it was worth it

Natalo ako sa eleksyon.

I got only 5 votes. The winner with 23 votes.

It was a bit bitter for me but it was all worth it.

Actually, I kept on reminding myself that this is somehow an 'experiment' for me or the perfect time so that people may know who this "JAY-R LIM" is.

And I think I was able to achieve that.

Kanina nga lang bago sa paglakad ko papunta dito sa internet cafe, tinatawag na ako ng mga tao.

"Hui JAY-R natalo ka daw."

"Oo nga eh *smiles*"

"Ikaw kasi eh hindi ka masyado naglalalabas sa inyo. 'Di bale may next time pa naman."

Yup. May ibang pagkakataon pa naman.

At may kwento pa ang watcher ng mga tatay ko. Sabi nila minsan daw JAY-R LIM ang binabasa sa mga balota. Buti na lang at may LIM para counted sa boto ng tatay ko.

Hmmmm... Malamang ito ay dahil sa noong nagikot kami, hala siguro mga 20 lang ang nakamayan at nakausap ko na mga kabataan. 99% puro matatanda. Akala tuloy kagawad tinatakbuhan ko.

Nangangamoy na ang susunod na brgy election. Baka tumakbo ako para barangay captain. Hahahaha...

Sa mga nagdasal, hoy tsong!!! at sa iba pa na sumusuporta, ISANG MALAKI AT MARAMING SALAMAT SA INYO!!!

Off topic...

Hindi deserving sa tingin ko ang nanalo na SK Chairman. Tsk tsk tsk... May mga balak na kami para ipadisqualify siya sa sari-saring election violations gaya ng pagpasok sa voting place sa oras ng bilangan at pamimigay ng mga campaign materials sa mismong araw ng eleksyon.

Pero may plan B pa ako naman, i'll prove to them na mas karapat-dapat akong nanalo. Papaano? Nariyan naman ang tatay ko na nanalo na BARANGAY KAGAWAD. At kung ano man ang gagawin ko, don't worry, hindi ako gagawa ng masama. Ang gagawin ko lang naman ay gumawa ng mga brgy ordinances na ipapadaan ko sa tatay ko na para sa mga kabataan ng aming barangay.

Talunan? Galit? Siguro may bahid na ganoon. Pero gusto ko talaga maglingkod. Ni hindi nga nila narinig ang mga programa ko dahil sa ipinakansela ito ng takot naming brgy captain dahil sa dami ng taong galit sa kanya ang aming barangay miting de avance.

Anyway... Life goes on and I'll just chalk it up to my experience to do better next time.

Isang bagay lang ang masasabi ko sa nakaraang tatlong araw na simula ng pangangampanya: toxic.

Hindi ko nga akalain na tatakbo pa ako. Umayaw na kasi ako mga one week bago ang deadline ng filing pero sabi nga sa last two minutes ng laro marami pa ang puwedeng maganap. At ayun na nga. Noon ayaw ng nanay ko na tumakbo ako kasi daw magulo lang saka sagabal sa pag-aaral ko. Pero noong Tuesday ng gabi, siya pa ang nagsabi na ituloy ko na raw.

Umayaw na ako kasi may drug test pa. Di pa nga ako nangangampanya may gastos agad. Saka hindi ako nakasisiguro na mananalo ako. Ayoko na sumugal. Kung iisipin napakababaw na dahilan ito para ipagpalit ang hangarin ko na gumuwa ng makabuluhang pagbabago. (By the way ang aking uhmm tagline sa kampanya ay: MAG-ARAL. MAGLINGKOD. TUNGO SA MAKABULUHANG PAGBABAGO.) Puwede naman ako humingi ng pera sa ibang tao o sa kanila mismo. Kaso nga alam ko naman na gipit kami at ayoko na dumagdag pa sa gastos. Pero talagang iba kung kumilos ang Panginoon. Nagkaroon ng paraan para ako'y makapag-file ng candidacy.

Bago pa ako nakapag-file ng COC, nagtatanong-tanong na ako kung sino ba mga kalaban ko. Una kong nasagap na balita ay anim kaming kandidato saka 109 lahat ng botante na kabataan. Naku teka kako, 109/6 , 18 bawat isa. Hindi ata maganda na masyadong hati ang mga botante kung mangyayari yon. Isa din yan sa mga factor kung bakit umayaw ako. Masyado nang madami at tutal hindi pa ako nagfile, di na lang ako sasama.

Sunod naman, nabawasan. Naging 5 na lang. (kasama ako sa bilang) Mali daw iyung unang impormasyon. Pero nito lang mga isang araw bago ako magfile 4 lang pala kami maglalaban-laban at sa paligid ng lugar namin, ako lang ang kandidato. Iyung tatlo eh magkakapitbahay pa, teka mukhang lumalaki tsansa ko na manalo.

At ayun sabay kami nagfile ng tatay ko, kagawad naman siya. Pareho kaming indie. At oo nga pala 180 lang iyung drug test taliwas sa mga sinabi ng napagtanungan ko na mula 300-500 daw.

At dahil sa biglaan ang lahat, hindi ako nakapaghanda. Kaya pagkafile ko ng candidacy (Oo nga pala nanay ko ang numero unong financier ko, hehe...) gumawa agad ako ng mga postersn at fliers. Medyo madali na ang plataporma dahil mga 3 months ago ko pa nagawa iyun. (Halatang excited.) Mula sa 16 na programa naging 8 na lang sa tulong ng pakikipagusap sa ilang tao.

At heto na: kampanya.

Dito ka talaga mamumulat na sa pulitika (kahit pa non-political o non-partisan ang barangay) nagiging malaking factor ang pera. Ang mga kalaban ko eh talaga naman mapera. Ako hanggang sa ngayon, wala pang tarp pero awa ng Diyos at may nagmagandang loob (nanay ko ulit, hahaha...) at nagpagawa ako noong Sabado. Kaso talaga naman minamalas at hindi magawa noong pinagpagawaan ko kesyo nasira iyung printer. Nakailang pangako at balik na ako. Katunayan kadadaan ko lang kanina. Wala pa din. Mamaya daw ala-sais. Ewan ko na lang.

Medyo madami na din kami naikabit na mga posters, may ilang bahagi na lang ang aming brgy na hindi pa nalalagyan at malalagyan din iyon dahil may darating pa na dagdag na posters (siyempre mula kay inay, hehehe..)

Sa kampanya naman ang isang sigurong medyo epektib na style eh ako mismo ang nagkakabit tapos may lalapit sa likod ko nat magtatanong "Aaahhh.. Ikaw pala iyan." Sagot ko naman "Ako nga.." at doon na magsisimula ang pakikipag-usap ko. Sa kasalukyan madali na akong makilala dahil nga una matangkad ako at pangalawa dahil wala na akong pasok. Iyung mga kalaban ko may klase pa kaya ayun. Kaso pag umaga wala masyado kabataan maliban na lamang kung tanghali kung saan nag-uuwian ang iba o di kaya iyung mga hindi na nag-aaral. Medyo madami na din ang nag-pledge pero siyempre hindi ako dapat maging kampante dahil hindi pa tapos ang kampanya.

Ang isang bagong bagay sa akin ay ang makita ang pagmumukha ko sa mga posters na nakadikit sa pader. Mabuti na lang at isa pa lang na poster ang nabibiktima ng mga naninira ng poster. At isa pa pala, photogenic naman pala ako kahit papaano. (Hehehe...) iyun ngang dalawang babae na kalaban ko eh pakyut sa mga poster nila, iyung isa ewan wala pa ako nakikita. Basta kakaiba. Hanggang dito na lang muna. Kelangan ko nang umuwi at maglakad lakad na naman sa paligid. Sige. Makikita niyo ang plataporma ko pati na ang mga posters ko dito sa mga susunod na araw.

Freedom From the
Bondage of Voicelessness

Ika-29 ng Mayo, pormal na nagsimula ang aking pagpasok sa mundo ng blogging. Nagsimula lamang bilang isang pangungulit sa text sa aking mga kamag-aral at kaibigan ko sa high school sa porma ng “group message.” Naging limitado lamang ito at iilan lamang ang nararating na mga tao. Pagpasok ko ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, lalo kong nakita ang pangagailangan upang ilabas ang lahat ng aking nais sabihin. At sa pamamagitan ng isang kaibigan na habang kami’y nagkataong nagkausap sa YM, nakita ko ang kanyang status message: “http://serkee.blogspot.com.” Nahiwagaan ako kaya ito’y aking pinindot. (siyempre sa pamamagitan ng cursor ng mouse.. hehe..) Aba, blog ang pala tawag nun. Kaya naisipan kong kopyahin ang url nito at in-edit. Ginawa ko ito na “http://www.blogspot.com.” Eureka. Napunta ako sa website ng Blogger at agad-agad akong gumawa ng aking blog.

Natatandaan ko pa. Sabik na sabik akong maglagay ng mga bagong posts. Hindi gaya ng ibang blog na ang mga inilalagay ang aking mga personal na detalye ng buhay. Ang inilalagay ko din ay mga artikulo na maituturing ko nang obra na talagang ginugugulan ko ng maraming oras upang gawin. Nagamit ko din ang mga ilan kong natutunan sa paggawa ng website gamit ang html. Noon, halos linggo-linggo ay may ma bago akong post. Karamihan nagtatalakay sa pulitika at isinama ko na rin ang tungkol sa buhay ko.

Mula noon, maraming pagbabago ang naganap. Tatlong beses na akong nagpalit ng pangalan:

The Dennio Series 2006 ang unang pangalan ng aking blog. Bakit iyon? Wala lang. Bigla ko na lang ito naisip dahil binalak ko noon na gumawa ng mga serye ng post na magtatalakay sa isang partikular na paksa.

Kasabay ng pagsasa-ayos kong muli, tinawag ko na itong Dennio Web Central dahil sa plano ko nang damihan ang aking blog. At bakit ulit iyon? Naisip ko lang na iyon ang magiging collective name ng lahat ng blog ko.

At ngayon, bilang paghahanda para sa binabalak kong pagsusulat ng libro, tinawag ko ito na Frustrated Writer na akma sa ilang beses ko nang pagtatangka na magsimula na sumulat ng libro pero hindi ko naitutuloy. At sa pamamagitan ng blog na ito, muli kong sisimulan ang naudlot kong pangarap.

Kasabay ng pagpapalit ng pangalan ay pagsasa-ayos ko ng aking blog. Noong una isa lamang ito. Hanggang sa naisipan kong palawakin ito at i-categorize ayon sa mga paksa na nais kong pag-usapan. Naging 12 lahat ito. Kasama dito ang main page at ang mga sumusunod:

Bawat isa may kanya-kanyang karakter. Ang Ikagugulantang Niyo ay naglaman ng mga paksa na maituturing na taboo na ayaw talakayin ng karamihan at pagpapakita ng ibang klase kong pagkatao. Ang Pangulong Dennio naman ay para sa mga pampulitikang usapin at siyempre isang tanghalan ng aking pangarap na maging pangulo ng Pilipinas. Ang It’s My Life naman ay tungkol sa buhay ko. Mahal Ko ang Pilipinas ay naglalayon na ipakita ang pagmamahal para sa ating Inang Bayan. Ang Educate ay para sa isang uri ng pag-aaral na higit pa sa apat na sulok ng silid-aralan. Ang Para sa Kalikasan ay para sa pangangalaga ng Kalikasan at ang Ipagtanggol ang Simbahan na naglalayong pigilan ang malawakang paninira at nais na pagpapabagsak ng ibang relihiyon sa isang simbahang hindi nila lubos na kilala. Habang ang apat na huling blog ay mga special blogs lamang na kumbagan ay batay sa okasyon.

Siyempre, hindi ito naging madali. Noong una maayos ang lahat. Pero naging mahirap ang maintenance ng napakaraming blogs at kadalasan may ilan ako na hindi na napagtutuunan ng pansin. Kaya’t inayos ko ito at inalis na ang apat na special blogs at itinira ang pito. Ito na ang

Nagbago man ng pangalan, hindi pa rin nagbabago ang karakter ng mga blog na ito. Kung may nagbago man, ito ay mas pagiging dikit sa nais nito. Mas magagandang mga artikulo. Mas pinagbuting pagsusuri.

Hindi rin naging madali ang pagpapakalat ng aking blog. Sumali pa ako sa mga Yahoo Groups at napagalitan pa ako dahil nag-flood ng messages. (eh hindi ko kasalanan iyun may problema iyung Yahoo Groups noong araw na iyun dahil ganoon din ang nangyari sa iba.. nagpaliwanag daw ba.. hehehe…) Pero ang talagang nagdala ng maraming bisita ang aking blog na nanggaling pa sa iba’t ibang dako ng mundo ay ang grupong Ang Bagong Pinoy Movement. May ilan pa nga na nagpadala ng email na nagpapaabot ng kanilang pasasalamat. Ayoko nang magbuhat ng bangko ngunit naging positibo ang kanilang reaksyon. Hanggang nagyon, ang mga miyembro ng grupong ito ang bumubuhay sa bilang ng mga bisita sa aking blog na siyang nagdudulot sa aking ng inspirasyon upang magsulat pa ng mga magagandang artikulo.

Meron din akong isang mahalagang paninindigan sa aking blog. Hangga’t maaari, mayorya ng aking mga posts ay aking isusulat sa wikang Filipino (gaya nito). Nais ko kasi na mas maintindihan ng kapwa ko Pilipino ang mga nais kong sabihin. Napansin ko kasi na halos lahat ng mga Pinoy bloggers ay Ingles ang ginagamit. Marahil dahil ito sa kailangang i-monetize ang kanilang mga blog at walang maglalagay ng kanilang ads kung ang content ay hindi Ingles (gaya ng nangyari sa akin). O maaaring may iba pang dahilan.

Pero sa akin, hindi kita ang layon ko sa aking mga blogs, nais ko na sa pamamaraang ito mamulat ang mga Pilipino o di kaya’y makapagbigay inspirasyon at pag-asa sa mga Pilipinong ayaw nang maging Pilipino. At kung gusto mong kausapin ang kapamilya mo, hindi ba’t maganda na sa sariling wika mo sila kausapin para higit na maunawaan ang iyong sinasabi.

Hindi rin nito layunin na magustuhan ng lahat ng mambabasa. I’m not here to please everybody. Magalit ka man o matuwa ang mahalaga bukas ang iyong isip sa lahat ng mababasa mo dito. Ngunit hindi pa rin mawawala ang responsibilidad ko sa pagsusulat. Iiwasan ko na makasakit ng sobra at tumira ng below the belt. Itinuturing ko ang blogging bilang isang bagong anyo ng journalism na may mga ethics na dapat sinusunod. Hindi ibig sabihin na walang nagbabantay sa ating mga ginagawa ay nararapat lamang na gawin natin lahat ng gusto natin kahit pa nakakasakit na tayo at nakakatapak ng karapatan ng ibang tao.

Sa halos lahat ng aking mga blogs, iba-iba man ang mga tinatalakay na paksa, umiikot lamang ito sa apat na pangkalahatang tema: pagmamahal sa Diyos, bayan, pamilya at kapwa tao.

Binuksan ng blogging ang isang panibagong mundo na kung saan nagawa kong ilabas ang nais kong sabihin. Ibang klaseng kalayaan ang naibigay nito sa akin. Ngunit higit sa lahat. Ang pinakamalaking epekto at ang nagawa ng blogging sa buhay ko: freedom from the bondage of voicelessness. Noon pigil ang pagsasalita ko. Hindi ako nagsasalita kahit na kinakailangan at alam ko na may maitutulong ito. Nagsisisi ako. Dahil sa hindi pagsasalita marami ang hindi nagkakaunawaan at maging ako hindi nila naiintindihan.

Pero sa kabila nito, may ilang bagay akong natutunan mula sa pagsasalita ko. Hindi ko dapat asahan na lahat ay sasangayon sa sasabihin mo. Hindi rin dapat na sa lahat ng oras ay magsasalita ka. Hindi ko na tuloy alam kung dapat na magsalita pa ako. Sa katunayan, ito ngayon ang isang dahilan ng mabigat kong problema. Sana lang matapos na.

Meron pa nag akong isang artikulo ngayon na nakatago pa at hindi ko alam kung kailan ko ito ilalabas. Malamang malapit na.

Limandaang araw na ang nagdaan. Mahigit 3000 na ang nakabisita sa aking mga blog. Ngunit hindi masusukat sa tagal ng pagiging blogger o dami ng mga bumibisita kung gumawa ba ng malaking epekto sa buhay nila ang mga isinusulat mo. May natutunan ba sila? Nakagawa ka ba ng kahit maliit na pagbabago sa kanilang mga buhay? At ang isa pang malaking tanong: do they find my blog worth their time visiting it?

Sa susunod na 500 araw, ito ang mga hamon na aking haharapin. Gumawa ng mga maiikili ngunit malaman na artikulo. Gawing kapaki-pakinabang ang kanilang pagdalaw sa aking blog. At higit sa lahat gumawa ng malaking pagbabago sa buhay nila, lalo na sa mga Pilipino.

At higit sa lahat ulit, huwag na huwag gagawa ng article ng alas-dose ng hatinggabi dahil umiikot na ang paningin mo at hindi mo na alam kung anu-ano ba ang isinusulat mo. (hehehe..)

Seriously speaking, actually this is my book: an online book to be exact. It may not have the chapters or pages written in it but I believe it is a book. At natupad na pala ang pangarap ko na magkaroon ng libro. Susunod na ang print version.

Sa kasalukuyan, ako'y nasa proseso na ng pageedit ng mabuti sa aking mga artikulo nais ko sana maging maganda at maayos ang kalalabasan nito kaya pinagbubutihan ko ang paggawa. Isang gabi habang nakahiga ako ay may ilang kataga na pumasok sa aking utak. Random ang pagdating niya. Whether you like it or not, narito na ang sinasabi ko na siyang sinang-ayunan ko:

"If these people are really logical thinkers, then they should see why do these progressive groups are shouting at the streets, why do people from the provinces end up living near the railways and under the bridges? How to Earn $1 Million by Not Watching TV

A recent study found that it would take $1 million for someone to be willing to give up TV for the rest of their lives.

Guess what? If you decided to give up TV and invested the money you saved, you would get that $1 million -- and probably a lot more.

People rarely consider the cost of watching TV, and when they do, they usually focus on the cost of their monthly cable bill. The truth is that there are a wide variety of costs associated directly and indirectly with having a TV.

Here are some areas where your TV drains your finances:

TV: The cost of your TV can range anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand if you decide to go for the newer plasma flat screen TVs. Take this cost and multiply it by several times, since you will likely own far more than one TV during your lifetime.

Entertainment cabinet system: Most people don't consider this cost when purchasing a TV, but you need a stand or entertainment cabinet on which to display your TV and other components of your entertainment system. This will cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars on up, depending on how fancy you decide to go. You can also assume that you will replace this at least once during your lifetime.

Cable: Once they have a TV, most people aren't satisfied watching only the free basic channels. Most will subscribe to a cable or satellite package that will cost them anywhere from $20 a month for bare-bones cable channels to well over $100 a month.

Pay-per-view: There are an increasing number of special pay-per-view sporting and entertainment events now found on TV. You might spend nothing to over $100 a month on these, depending on your viewing habits.

Movies: In addition to cable, most people are going to want to watch movies. That means either purchasing the DVDs or renting them from a service such as NetFlix and paying a monthly fee.

DVD/DVR: In order to watch the movies that you rent, you are going to need a decent DVD player. This will cost at least a few hundred dollars. And again, you'll likely replace this a minimum of several times over your lifetime as technologies change and better quality devices are created. You also may buy recording devices or DVRs like Tivo and related accessories to catch all of your favorite shows.

Gaming system: If you are into video games, you will purchase a gaming system to use. These can cost anywhere from a couple hundred dollars on up. You will also likely buy a number of these over your lifetime as the systems improve.

Games: If you purchase a gaming system, you will also need to purchase or rent games to play on that system. This can get quite costly, as most people want a variety of different games to play. It can easily run more than $100 a month if you purchase multiple games.

Energy: You will need to pay for the electricity to run the TV and other related electronics. This will vary greatly, depending on the type of TV you have and how much energy costs where you live, but it will likely be a minimum of $10 a month and possibly much more.

Commercials: A huge hidden cost of TV that people never consider are all the commercials they watch. The commercials are there to get you to buy products -- and they are effective. Economist Juliet Schor estimated that for every hour of TV a person watches each week, he or she will increase his or her annual spending by about $200, according to a 1999 article in the Spokane, Wash., Spokesman-Review. In 2005, Nielsen Media Research reported that the average person watched approximately 4.5 hours of TV a day, or 31.5 hours a week. At $200 in extra spending for each hour watched, that means that the average person spends an extra $6,300 a year due to TV commercials that they wouldn't have spent if they didn't watch TV.

Opportunity costs: Another cost often overlooked when considering the price of watching TV is the opportunities forfeited when you choose viewing over something else. You could start a business, take on a part-time job or take care of your garden so you don't have to pay someone else to do it. Assuming that your time is worth at least the minimum wage of $5.85 per hour, your opportunity cost is $737 a month if you view the average amount of TV.

So what does this all add up to? Say you're 25 years old and you initially spend $2,000 for your TV, DVD player, entertainment cabinet and gaming system after getting your first job. Add in monthly costs of $100 for cable, $10 for electricity use, $20 for renting movies, $25 for buying games and $20 for an occasional pay-per-view event, and you're looking at $175 a month. Add in another $525 a month extra you spend due to the influence of commercials if you are the average person, and you are costing yourself $700 a month watching TV.

If you instead invested this money and received a return of 8% compounded annually over 45 years until you're 70 years old, you would have more than $3.7 million in your account.

That is actually a conservative number, as additional upgrades in equipment were not included. Not to mention potential repair costs. It's also more than likely that many of the services will rise in price over time and new TV-related services will be introduced. And the calculation does not even take into account the potential additional opportunity cost, which could be a significant amount of money.

Your actual lifetime TV costs will vary from the above assumptions depending on how you watch TV and what services you use. You can make an estimate of your total costs for watching TV by plugging the relevant numbers into a basic compounding calculator.

While it's probably unrealistic that you will give up your TV entirely, the above numbers should make you consider how much money your TV-watching habits are costing you. Even some small changes could have a huge benefit on your overall finances.
